Googling these words will take you on a beautiful journey through the diversity in women as they strive to make their dreams a reality in the comedy business. From the likes of Lucille Ball to Ellen DeGeneres and down to modern day’s Tiffany Haddish, Amy Schumer, Leslie Jones and so many other vibrant and passionate women who do this for the love of the craft not just for the benefits. These women have done standup, they’ve been in movies, written, and even co-produced comedic shows, the whole nine yards. Hence, they are definitely worth celebrating. Despite the selective sexism or even misogyny in the comedic business, these women in their diverse looks, ethnicities, religions, and views are pushing forward and changing the narrative by not quitting till they touch the stars.

The story so far

Comedy was mostly seen as a man’s game back in the day, just like sports. It took female comedic pioneers like Fanny Brice, Joan Rivers, Moms Mabley, and so many other amazing women to pave the way for this generation’s acts. This day the platforms available make it ten times easier to be successful. With YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Netflix, Twitter and other social platforms available to showcase your craft, it’s only a matter of time before fame is yours. However, it’s not all easy as the ease just increases the number of acts, therefore, making the competition even tougher for women.

Digital female comedian

Take Liza Koshy for example. She is absolutely crushing it in this generation. Her impeccable use of social platforms for craft visibility alongside her million hours of hard work has really propelled her career, especially in this generation. Liza currently has 18 million followers on Instagram and probably more on the diverse social sites she’s on. Liza isn’t the only woman making that’s digitalizing comedy. There are so many other young creatives on this path and this makes creating highly sought after in this line of business, just as a means to stand out from the ever-increasing crowd.

Highest paid female comedian

While she may not be of the millennial generation, Amy Schumer is a female comedian that has made a name for herself in the business. This fierce queen has made history as she’s the first-ever female comedian to ever make Forbes’ list of highest-paid comedians. She ranks third on that list, right after Kevin Hart and Jim Gaffigan. Amy is presently the highest-paid female comedian in history as she’s had a show on Netflix which was a major success. Amy has had several tours where she makes about half a million dollars a city, bringing laughter to those who need it. Amy is definitely making a bank but it’s not just about the money, Amy is as talented as they come. She's high-spirited, driven and never fails to award gratitude to the women who came before her in this business.

Women in comedy are worth recognizing and celebrating as through their strides, many have come to be and many more are soon to come. They are beautiful, vibrant and of course, crazy talented which makes it hard to single out just a handful.
