Why do I feel so hard to come out hilarious before my colleague no matter how hard I imagine in my mind? But I learned that if I wanted anything to come out well, I need to visualize it. These and more are the lines battling in your mind all day because you are in dire need to improve your stand-up writing skills.

You desire to stir some ribs cracking sensations in your audience, you want to see them laugh to tears, isn’t it? Well, you are on the right page as today’s recipe has all the stand-up writing exercises you need to stay on top of the game. Are you ready to eat? Let’s begin!

  • Compile and try out some words. You want to bring out the creativity crying inside of you, right? Then start with writing down some words like bakery, judiciary, reality TV, transgender and any word that comes to your mind. When you are done listing them, the next thing is to try making jokes out of them, you can try as many jokes as you can. From there, you will recite the jokes written before your friends, colleagues and just anyone around you. When your listeners begin to roll on the floor while laughing amidst tears, then you know you’ve got it.

  • Roasting the trending stories helps too. Like words and jokes recitation, another way of improving your stand-up writing expertise is to make jokes out of the trending celebrity gossip, news report, sports news, and financial news. As nothing gets people connected like a real situation recreated uniquely and comically because it will reduce the pressure of the incident or give a neutral or another angle to the report. They jeer and ovation you will receive will work well on your confidence and that is just what you need. Isn’t it?

  • Make sure to Write Every day. One way to getting your stand-up writing game on the hit is to practice always. Like they say, “if you want to be a maestro, do it over and over again.”  Apart from roasting the news, you can develop new ideas and sharpen your creative skills when you are writing always.

  • Try out many different writing styles. To sound crazily comic, you don’t only need to write often but to try out various writing techniques and be amazed at how good you will become. Oh yes, you will be shocked at how creative and hilarious your writing taste will be and more so, you will find your mind giving birth to wonderful new ideas. Now, this is getting sweet.

  • Get to know yourself. Are you surprised at this exercising idea? Hold on! Did you know that other than writing from various angles, one more stand-up writing exercise idea is to express yourself to yourself? More like soliloquizing, talking to yourself, telling yourself about your achievements, disappointments and all your experiences. And you can be writing these experiences as you are talking, and you will be amazed at how beautifully scripted it will be at the end. You know, when it flows naturally, it helps you get better with your writing.

  • Resist the urge of writing formulas. Apart from expressing yourself in writing, one more stand-up writing exercise idea that will help you is the non-usage of writing formulas. But they are aids… you may argue, not when you desire to be original. So, if you have a thing for uniqueness, avoid them as possible as you can and try to use the above option of expressing yourself before writing then you will appreciate how creative you are.

Stand-up writing exercises are very important for not just beginners but every stand-up writer that hopes to get better with the profession. As an athlete keeps his/her appointment with the gym instructor, successful stand-up writers always keep their part of the writing deal by practicing these exercises when they don't want to be booed out on the next occasion.
